Cake Café has been running successfully for over a decade with a focus on combating social isolation and loneliness.  Offering a wide variety of affordable freshly baked cakes and hot beverages to our Community for the very reasonable £1.50 each!  But it also offers so much more than that…..It is a safe, warm and welcoming space for those of all ages to meet friends, make new ones and just enjoy a sense of community.

In one corner we have the scrabble table where our volunteer bookkeeper Dottie (99 years young) and her friends play a cut throat game of scrabble every week.

Tony and his tech repair skills join us weekly – got a problem with your tablet or phone? He’s your man!

Crafty Crew join us from 10-12 and have a reserved table for their crafting activities – stop and see what they are doing, have a chat or join them – they are always welcoming to experienced crafters or those that just want to ‘have a go’.

We are regularly joined by outside organisations offering help and advice to our users – Age Concern UK and Vale Community Impact being just a couple of those that pop in to answer questions and give support to those that need it.  This is a valuable resource easily accessible to all and has been of great benefit to many.  The cake is so popular it regularly draws in our local friendly constabulary who always stop for a slice of cake and a chat with our users.

Our Cafe is run by a wonderful team of friendly volunteers who are always happy to take a moment and have a chat – the free cuppa and cake makes for the perfect excuse!  They take the time to get to know each and every customer by name, worrying if they run late or don’t arrive and hadn’t mentioned an appointment.  This is what genuine community spirit looks like and is a wonderful thing to be a part of.
